(Payor Symposia) Whose PHR is it?
Sunday, February 24, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Holly Miller, MD, MBA
Show/Hide Details Add to Outlook Calendar
Description:
In the US we live in an era of epidemic preventable disease, skyrocketing healthcare costs, and an aging baby boomer population poised to overwhelm the healthcare delivery system. In addition, these boomers are using new criteria to identify how and by whom they want their care delivered and that they want to focus on maintaining their health.
Incentives have been put into place to drive clinician behavior toward evidence based medical practice, however, the provider's influence over patient behavior is limited to a static and asynchronous pattern.
We will address the questions:
Can we design and implement incentive programs to encourage healthcare consumers to make healthy behavioral changes?
Can the next generation of PHRs be designed to support the national goals of decreasing costs and improving the quality of healthcare in the US, while meeting the healthcare consumers demands?
Speaker Information:
Holly Miller, MD, MBA
Chief Medical Information Officer, University Hospitals

Hindy Shaman, MBA
Peter Kongstvedt, MD, FACP
Show/Hide Details Add to Outlook Calendar
Description:
Every health industry stakeholder group -- consumers, providers, purchasers and suppliers -- has an integral role to play in improving the overall quality of healthcare services. Yet the achievement of high quality care remains more of a goal than a reality on many levels because of differing definitions, measurements, and improvement processes and tools. Indeed, the concept of quality healthcare can almost be described as a "conundrum;" that is, a paradoxical, insoluble or difficult problem.
This closing session features two well-known and respected industry experts who have conducted extensive research and consulting work in the field of healthcare quality. The speakers will present their observations on the multi-faceted issues facing quality improvement in today's care delivery and payer environments. They will also discuss what developments are on the horizon and how organizations can best prepare for the future.
Speaker Information:
Hindy Shaman, MBA
Director, Health Research Institute, PriceWaterhouseCoopers
Peter Kongstvedt, MD, FACP
