Continuing Education

HIMSS08 is an excellent opportunity to earn continuing education credit toward annual licensure and certification for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, project managers, and HIMSS, AHIMA and ACHE members.

The education component of the HIMSS08 Annual Conference & Exhibition includes individual sessions, interactive workshops, roundtable discussions and electronic sessions. HIMSS will post continuing education credits by session closer to the conference.

CPHIMS

 HIMSS is providing continuing education contact hours toward renewal of the CPHIMS credential. The number of approved contact hours and the downloadable forms will be available later this fall. Attendee tracking forms will also be available for download at any Surf the Net station while on-site.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) for Physicians

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through joint sponsorship of Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and the Department of Defense (DoD). USUHS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

USUHS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 32 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)

The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

31.9 CNE contact hours are provided for participation in this educational activity.

Accreditation refers to the recognition of the education activity only and does not imply USUHS or Commission on Accreditation approval or endorsement of any product.

In order to receive full contact-hour credit for this CNE activity, you must attend the entire activity, participate in individual or group activities such as exercises or pre/post tests, and you must complete and submit the evaluation and verification of attendance forms at the conclusion of the activity.

American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE)

The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences is authorized to award 32 hours of pre-approved Category II (non-ACHE) continuing education credit for this program toward advancement of recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Participants in this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward Category II credit should indicate their attendance when submitting application to the American College of Healthcare Executives for advancement or recertification.

Evaluations and Certificates
Prior to leaving, you MUST submit your completed continuing education evaluation forms at the Continuing Education booth to receive a certificate. Certificates will be mailed approximately 6 – 8 weeks following the close of the educational activity.

Continuing Education for Pharmacists (CPE)

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ASHP will offer ACPE-approved credit hours for pharmacists attending the 2008 HIMSS Pharmacy Informatics Symposium and those ten educational sessions (10, 11, 29, 41, 63, 86, 104, 121, 139 and 140) identified by the ACPE Program Numbers and the number of CE credit hours available.

ASHP will mail validated Statements of Continuing Pharmacy Education to attendees who completed a CE Request Form at the Conference. Statements will be mailed within four to six weeks after the conference.

Health Information Management Professionals

Lecture and panel sessions of this program have been approved for continuing education credits for use in fulfilling the continuing education requirements of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Professional Development Units for Project Managers

Attendees at project management sessions of this program may file for Category 4 PDUs to be used in fulfilling the continuing education requirements of the Project Management Institute (PMI). Documentation Required: PMPs should maintain registration form, certificate or letter of attendance, and a brochure or course materials indicating the subject matter covered and the qualifications of the instructor or content expert.
